Antenatal
We are a team of 3 LLL Leaders (the word for LLL breastfeeding counsellors) here in Waltham Forest. We love running our antenatal breastfeeding evenings. However Elizabeth is currently long-term ill and Eva has just given birth to her 3rd baby, so it taking a much deserved break from LLL voluntary work for a little while. For this reason, sadly, we are not able to run antenatal breastfeeding sessions at present.
Our other LLLWF Leader Sian, currently runs our regular meetings to which pregnant women are invited. Our experience is that pregnant women gain a great deal from joining a regular meeting and watching and hearing about breastfeeding and its challenges and joys from real-life mothers in the heart of it. Many go on to return to meetings once their little one has arrived, to ask questions, share support and for the company of other mothers.

Are you expecting a baby?
Would you like to prepare for breastfeeding your baby?
Are you a dad, mum, partner, friend or family member who would you like some ideas for how to support mum and baby with breastfeeding?
Another option instead of/as well as attending our regular meetings is to check out our national antenatal breastfeeding provision. Details of which can be found here https://www.laleche.org.uk/antenatal-courses/
Our next LLLWF antenatal evening is not going to be confirmed in the short term. If you have more questions please contact us. LLLWF meetings are free to attend.
Here is a testimonial from a recent evening :
"I'm glad we attended the antenatal course with LLL, and would recommend it to any couple hoping to breastfeed.
Those first few weeks after the birth can feel so overwhelming and intense, and I haven't met a mother yet who doesn't list learning to breastfeed as one of her biggest challenges. Understanding some basics - how to spot a good latch, when (not) to be concerned about whether baby was getting enough milk, and where to go for more support if I needed it - really helped me to feel less anxious as we welcomed our daughter into our lives. You're still stuck with the sleep deprivation, but it is easier to manage if you know it's normal for baby to feed very frequently in those early days! I also believe sharing that understanding with my partner helped him to support me better.
It's a bit like knowing some key phrases when you're traveling to a foreign country. Sure, Google translate will always be there to call on, but who really wants to hunt for the Wi-Fi password after a delayed flight with no sleep?
Plus, lovely people and great biscuits - what more do you need?"
